All dog owners must provide documentation of current rabies vaccination for their pets at the initial consultation. (These requirements may be waived upon written recommendation from a pet’s veterinarian.)

All dog owners must provide documentation of current rabies vaccination for their pets at the initial consultation.

As per the Lake, Cook, Kane & DuPage County Animal Ordinance:

  • Every owner of a dog or cat four months or older must ensure their pet is vaccinated against rabies by a licensed veterinarian.
  • A second rabies vaccination is required within one year of the first vaccination, followed by annual vaccinations.
  • If a three-year rabies vaccine is administered and approved by the Illinois Department of Agriculture, dogs or cats over 12 months old may extend their vaccination interval to three years.
  • Rabies vaccination must be documented on a certificate approved by the Board and signed by the licensed veterinarian administering the vaccine.
